    The 2026 Texas SHRM LEADHRS program is an exclusive leadership development experience for Texas SHRM chapter Board Members and State Council leaders in the Southwest Central Region. The program strengthens participants’ leadership capabilities in their professional roles, their chapters, and their service to Texas SHRM.

    Across six modules, participants explore key leadership topics such as team development, strategic planning, culture building, situational leadership, and project planning. Each module includes:

    • 1.5-hour Webinar – Recorded and available for independent viewing.
    • Application Assignment Overview – Optional; attend live or watch the recording.
    • One-on-one Coaching Connect – Scheduled individually after each webinar and before the related group discussion; participants may miss no more than two.
    • 1.5-hour Guided Group Discussion – A core component of the program; participants may miss no more than two to graduate.
    2024 SHRM Pinnacle Award Winner:

    Texas SHRM received national recognition in the “Serving the Professional” category for the LEADHRS program and its statewide impact on developing HR leaders.

    This program qualifies for 9 hours of SHRM/HRCI professional development credits (PDC). Participants must participate in four or more Coaching Connects and Guided Group Discussions to be eligible to graduate.

    Estimated time commitment: 27–30 hours across all six modules (webinar, application work, Coaching Connect, and guided group discussion).

     Join presenter, Mario Hernandez, as he dives into  unemployment claims and appeals process for Texas employers

    From start to finish, an unemployment claim can take all kinds of twists and turns. This presentation will help demystify the unemployment claims and appeals process for Texas employers. In addition, employers will be provided with resources should they seek additional information about unemployment claims and appeals or general employment law issues.

    Mario Hernandez

    Mario Hernandez serves as senior legal counsel to the Commissioner Representing Employers at the Texas Workforce Commission. He is responsible for advising the Commissioner on final-level unemployment claims, speaking at Texas Workforce Commission business conferences across the state, and writing articles for Texas Business Today, the newsletter produced by the office of the Commissioner Representing Employers. In addition, he answers the office’s employer hotline to provide information to employers in Texas on labor law matters and provides legislative analysis to the Commissioner on Texas House and Senate bills. Mr. Hernandez is from Harlingen, Texas, and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin. He received his law degree at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas.

    If you are competing, each school can send one team to represent them.  The team needs to be comprised of a group no less than two students and at a maximum five students.  Your team captain will register for the group.  You do not need to register as a general attendee.    

    If you are not competing, you will want to register as a general attendee.
