ADA and Pregnant Workers' Fairness Act: What's On The Horizon and What Should We Plan For?
In this session, The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act has broad support from more than 250 worker advocates, civil rights groups, and business groups, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. In a recent survey of voters across the country, 89 percent said they support the proposal, including 81 percent of Republicans, 86 percent of Independents, and 96 percent of Democrats. With that much support, we might even see Congress pass a bi-partisan bill. We will discuss how is it different than the Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978 and other laws protecting pregnant employees, and pro-active steps employers should be thinking about now, to prepare. Also, as we try to emerge from this pandemic, Americans With Disabilities Act claims are ubiquitous these days. We will discuss new challenges employers are facing relating to ADA claims, as we navigate how to return to the new “normal.”
